about emmy

Emmy completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga East + West in Ubud, Bali. This past winter Emmy attended Kayla Nielsen’s 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Still Salty Escape in Nicaragua. She began practicing yoga in 2012 after two major spinal surgeries as a recommended path to rehabilitation and recovery. Yoga transformed her life not only physically but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Emmy’s road to recovery led her to discover a passion for health and wellness. She went on to pursue her degree, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science with a Concentration in Health and Wellness from High Point University in North Carolina. Hoping to gain a deeper understanding of the philosophy of yoga, she took several courses on Buddhism and South East Asian religions. Emmy was curious to explore Asia and embarked on a 6 month long journey to teach English in Thailand. A fulfilling experience, her eyes and heart were opened to a new culture and way of life.

From Thailand she traveled to Bali where she spent month long living on an ashram surrounded by rice fields. Over the course of this month she completed her 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training taught by an international panel of teachers; asanas by Amiro Maitri, Ancient Indian Philosophy by Vjeth Kumar, and meditation by Gurumukh.

Post Bali, Emmy returned to Nantucket and enrolled in a mentorship program through Supta Yoga Nantucket, led by Meg Rohrer and Evie O’Connor, two of her admired mentors and role models. Continuing to pursue yoga education she completed an Intro to Core teacher training led by Carrie Seyer at her studio 1111 on Nantucket with a workshop led on theming by Sarah Fay.

Emmy spent the winter of 2020 exploring the North and South Islands of New Zealand where she worked on farms and taught community yoga classes. When COVID hit she returned to Nantucket to work for 2 years as a teacher’s assistant at the Nantucket Lighthouse School. She became a certified educator of Mindfulness in the Classroom through Mindful Schools and implemented a Mindfulness, Meditation, and Yoga curriculum for her students.

Currently, Emmy is a year round resident on Nantucket Island teaching yoga, gardening, and coaching lacrosse. Emmy has a deep sense of gratitude for her supportive Nantucket yoga community and the wisdom and knowledge passed down from her fellow teachers on island. She hopes to give back to the community and offer a practice and tool that has changed her life, in hopes of helping others on their journey. Emmy offers classes to the public in studio at Supta, to members of the Westmoor Club, and privately. You can also find her classes on demand through her app.
